Frequently Asked Questions about Reselling Web Services

What is re-selling?

In a reselling relationship, the reseller is not an employee of ours, but instead acts as an extension of our marketing, sales and support operations. Our resellers market our services independently, offering a selection of their own, our pre-packaged plans or a combination of both. Our resellers usually provide the easier side of Web Hosting, like offering basic technical support and account administration. On our side of the deal, our resellers allow us to expand our customer base without overextending our marketing and sales costs. From our resellers side; our services allow an independent operator to profit from the World-Wide Internet market without requiring a big investment or a huge amount of technical knowledge.

What is a Web host?

A web host provides the space for their customer's Web sites, they usually also provide e-mail addresses, software for order forms, shopping carts, security for online shopping and content management and so on.

All of this is stored on a Web server - a computer with a permanent, direct Internet connection.

You don't need your own Web server to provide Web Hosting. You can become a reseller of our web hosting services - we supply the equipment, staff and knowledge to run the technical end, what you need is sales and marketing savvy and a commitment to providing good service to your customers.

How do I make money?

Our Resellers make money the same way we do, through the fees paid by customers. The customer purchases the service from the reseller, who then purchases the same service from us at a discount, our resellers get the bulk of the purchase cost for the work involved in setting up accounts, applications and providing support. Our resellers do not have the large investment in the equipment or IT staff involved in actually running the web hosting facilities.

How much money can I make?

How much money you make as a reseller is up to you. This is not a "Get Rich Quick" scheme or pipe dream, we are offering services and support of very high quality that is second to none, however, the amount of money you will make will be in direct relationship to the amount of effort you expend on promoting and backing up these services, as the owner and operator of your own Internet Business, it is up to you to put in the effort required to make your business succeed. Many of our Resellers average as little as an hour or two a week while others quickly exceeded their current income and have turned to reselling our services full time. The most exciting aspect of all of this is your ability to quickly get started with a tiny investment, start earning money, then build and expand your business to any size you desire as your experience and customer base grows.

What do I need to know?

Providing Internet Services may not be as complex as you might expect, as a reseller of our services, you are avoiding physical contact with the web server hardware, and along with that goes much of the technical side of things. The level at which you should start is the level with which you are comfortable, the more technically involved you become, the more personalised and individual your level of service will be. The level of required technical understanding to become involved in the simplest of our reselling programs, is minimal; You should have a solid familiarity with the Internet, and will also need an understanding of how to manage and maintain a business in general. We can fully support you with all Internet related aspects of your business, our relationship will be close and personal and we will be ready to help in any way we can at anytime, however, of course the running of your business, including financial and other business decisions and structuring are up to you.

What equipment do I need?

As with several other aspects of the business, the amount of equipment you will need to have in order to operate as a reseller will depend entirely on how deeply involved you want to become. As one of our Web hosting resellers, you can go as far as to rent or buy the server equipment and set up your hosting operations on your own dedicated web server machine housed in our Dedicated Network Operations Centre. But at its simplest, reselling our services requires you to own very little equipment, to set up a basic reselling business, all you really need is a computer that you can use to manage the accounts, and a connection to the Internet and a hosting account with us!

What can I re-sell?

Among the specific services that can be re-sold with your own label or ours are:

Web Hosting: virtual accounts, dedicated servers and co-location services

Mail servers: Some customers only need someone to look after their e-mail, a re-seller can provide email POPs and aliases to accompany their Domain Names.

Web Development: Including E-Commerce, software and scripts, content creation and consulting. E-commerce includes Storefronts and Development and hosting packages specifically geared toward e-commerce. Software and scripts include Web solutions like Web Site maintenance, content management, on-line customer service, Search and Database Engines and many more.

Web Promotion: Pre-packaged or custom Web Promotion plans.

Domain Names: Domain name registration and parking functionality. We can put you on to a cheap source of Domain names which you can use to increase the value of your services by passing on the saving or cash in by charging the going rates.

What do I have to pay for?

Depending on the service you are reselling, little or no set up cost will be involved, usually you will only need a Web Hosting account with us and a Web Site. You can build the web site yourself or pay us or another developer to set one up for you. To resell our hosting services a minimum of our Pack Leader Web Hosting Account is required. Most of the time you will be ordering products or services as you need them, no need to keep "stock" on hand.

Do I have to provide support?

Most of our re-seller plans require that it will be your responsibility to provide the technical support, however anything you are not sure of or need advice about, you will just forward the query to us and we'll give you the answer to pass on to your customer. Our support desk is open 9am to midnight, 7days a week, 365 days a year and for international customers, other times outside those can be arranged. For our TurnKey Re-Seller solutions, Support and Billing can be handled completely by us, using your name for all correspondence and online documentation. Please Contact Us for details about Turnkey Web Hosting Solutions.

Who can operate this type of business?

Anybody with a working knowledge of how the Internet works, some basic people skills, basic computer skills and a commitment to good service. Some of our resellers include some of the larger Australian, USA and UK service providers in operation today, while others are single operators, working out of a home as a way to make a some extra money. Our resellers often specialise in a particular service or product or they resell a range of our services including Web Hosting, Web Design, Programming, Internet consulting and Promotion.

Our re-sellers are not required to be hardware or programming specialists, we supply them with all the services, products and technical support that they need. Our re-sellers may have extensive business experience or sales experience, retirees, working part-time or fulltime, or they may be young, stay at home parents.

Where will I get my customers?

You have a very large and ever expanding market of consumers to sell to - everyone who wants a Web site needs a Web host and there are a multitude of related Web Services. When first starting out, it will be best to try and attract small clients (owner-operator and small businesses) in need of hosting services like shared accounts, email, domain names, web development and promotion.

One of the best places to locate customers like these is to browse webmaster resource sites and message forums. You can find self-employed individuals in need of hosting, design, promotion or other web solutions at these sites. When you are known to them, you will be able to attract a few clients to get you started, from there, you can build personal relationships with them to retain their business and ensure they recommend your services. This allows you to gain experience and knowledge as your business builds up.

Once you've established a name for your company and built up its size and service offerings, you can start to attract slightly larger clients with more complex needs.

Ensure you setup a good web site for sales and support. Don't hide pricing or other details, Internet customers are usually in a hurry, give them the information the need and they will have no need to go elsewhere. Extensive support and resource areas on your web site can help greatly with helping your new and existing customers.

If your budget allows, you might want to try an ad campaign, online and offline. Try Pay-Per-Performance search engines like GoTo.com, Google and others. Regardless of budget, you should embark on a serious, long term web promotion campaign for your web site. Contact us for more information on Web Site promotion, we can promote your site for you, and/or teach you how.

Do I have to tell my customers I’m a reseller?

No, many resellers do not advertise this fact, though there is nothing to hide! - industry or specialised knowledge, location, availability and numerous other reasons will result in the services and support that you package and provide as being more suitable to your customers than what other or even larger hosting companies could provide for the same price or even at all in some cases.

With attention to detail and a commitment to ongoing, responsive service, your customers will receive and appreciate a high quality and personal level of service. Their business will also benefit from the relationship in cost saving and many other ways, forming a strong win-win situation for all involved.
